Solid regional care, Surabaya for the rest
RSUD Dr Saiful Anwar is the Class A referral hospital for the southern half of East Java, affiliated with the Universitas Brawijaya medical faculty, with an integrated cardiac service and a large dialysis unit. IHC Lavalette, founded in 1918 and now run by Pertamina Bina Medika, is the main private alternative — a Class B hospital with around 83 active doctors, 24-hour emergency care, endoscopy, chemotherapy and haemodialysis.
There is no internationally accredited hospital in Malang. Surabaya’s JCI-accredited hospitals are about two hours down the toll road, and that proximity is what makes Malang’s low cost of living workable rather than a gamble.
