Healthcare
Good private care, referral elsewhere for the complex
Santosa Hospital Bandung Central is the main private facility — around 400 beds, open since 2006, with a neuroscience and stroke centre and a cardiac centre. Santo Borromeus, running since 1921, and Advent are the other names that come up repeatedly in expat guides.
Worth being precise about the language: these hospitals describe themselves as meeting international standards, but at least one medical-travel directory lists Santosa as holding no recognised international accreditation. That is not the same as JCI or ACHS certification. For routine and mid-level care Bandung is comfortable; for something genuinely complex, Jakarta is three hours away by toll road.
Climate

Bandung sits at roughly 750 metres, which is what people talk about after a year in the lowlands — nights that are genuinely cool rather than merely less hot. It is also wetter than the coast.
Getting there
This is currently in flux and worth checking before you commit. Husein Sastranegara (BDO), in the city itself, lost its international status in 2023 when services moved to Kertajati (KJT), 90 to 100 km away — two to two and a half hours from central Bandung. Husein is approved to reopen to scheduled commercial jets from 17 September 2026, with Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru routes reported as under discussion but not confirmed. Until those materialise, your realistic options are Kertajati or Jakarta, three to three and a half hours away.
Buying property
Minimum price for a foreign buyer: Rp 5 billion for a landed house
Bandung is in West Java, in the top band at Rp 5 billion for a landed house. Given Bandung’s relatively moderate property prices, this threshold excludes most of the market — a serious constraint worth understanding before you fall in love with a house here.
Foreigners cannot hold freehold. A landed house is held on Hak Pakai — granted for 30 years, extendable by 20 and renewable for a further 30 — and where a property is currently Hak Milik or HGB, the title must be converted before it can be transferred to you. Land is capped at 2,000 m² per person or family without ministerial permission, one plot each, and the home is supposed to be lived in rather than let out.
